This certificate program will prepare you to work as a capable entry-level patient care technician (PCT). You will learn the skills needed to perform well in this role and contribute to a medical team. Gain knowledge on bedside care and vital healthcare procedures such as emergency room protocols, phlebotomy, electrocardiography (ECG) and hemodialysis.

Strong communication skills and empathy are important for a PCT’s line of work as they interact with patients, patients’ families, nurses and doctors.

You will learn the basics of patient care and how to work effectively with members of the health care team.

We have carefully planned our program to teach you the skills and knowledge you need to become an invaluable asset to the health care team.

Course topics include:

  • Medical terminology
  • Basic health profession skills
  • Pharmacology
  • Pathophysiology
  • Phlebotomy

In addition to course work, you will gain experience with direct patient encounters during clinicals.

PCTs work directly with patients and collaborate with nurses. PCTs may:

  • Measure vital signs
  • Draw blood & collect specimens for diagnostics
  • Manage patient food & fluid intake
  • Perform basic laboratory work
  • Perform basic laboratory work
  • Perform electrocardiograms (ECGs)
  • Monitor patient safety & protect patient rights
  • Offer emotional support to patients & their loved ones

Certification Exam:

Graduates from the PCT Training Program will receive a certificate of completion. The certificate qualifies the graduate to take the Certification Exam through the National Healthcare Careers Association (NHA)
